Chinoiserie Secretary Desk-Black 1725-1750- 1:12 scale
The Secretary Desk is one of the most common antique desk forms. This reproduction was designed in a Chinoiserie style, inspired by the Asian decorative arts. The two beautifully painted (back and front) doors that depict traditional Chinese motifs, open to reveal storage shelves, cubbies and drawers. The lower section is made up of four wide drawers topped by a slant top desk. There are two small wooden sliders when pulled out support the hinged desktop. Two small drawers and 5 small divided compartments are fitted across the top of the desk. The whole is a single, tall piece of furniture with bracket feet and gold painted finials on either side of the hood. The corner back bar has been designed to fit across a corner or stand flat against a wall. The centre of the cabinet comprises of 2 cupboard with glass door seperated by 2 drawers. There is a single shelf in each cupboard. The sides which are angled forward at 45 degrees have 2 shelves and each shelf has a small brass rail aound the edge to hold bottles and glasses in place.In the bottom of each side section is a cupboard with a wooden door and a single interior shelf.The simple molded pediment is repeated across the cabinet, under the drawers and at the bottom of the cabinet.
