Louis16th French style Settee. The Settee back is rigid, upright and rectangular divided into 3 sections above the arm rest .Each section has its own head rest and decorative turning. The padded settee seat is rectangular a feature of furniture of this era.. The upholstered armrests extend to the front of the seat and the front of the 4 legs are fluted, the flutes being highlighted with a gold detail line. The top of the legs is a bulbous turning also detailed in gold .The straight back legs are curved slightly and there are casters on all 6 legs . The Hand painted detailing of leaves along the front of the seat and up the sides of the Settee and the painted ormolu mounts are indicative of the Neo-classical design. The painted design has been continued on the sides of the head rest and back of Settee. The S settee is upholstered in a Blue coloured cotton fabric buttoned on the back and under the am rests. The Settee Measures: 12 inches long x 4 1/2inches deep x 7inches high and is available in a walnut finish .

Victorian Antique Japanned Sewing Box
Victorian Antique Japanned Work Table Sewing Box. During this period large and ornate sewing boxes were fashionable. Needlework was a popular pastime for dowager ladies and sometimes even the gentlemen. This needlework box highly decorated in the chinoiserie style is supported on a tall trestle table with Lyre shaped ends. The sides are cut in balancing cyma curves. It sits on 2 scroll cut cyma-curved bracket feet. The interior of the box has been divided into compartments of various sizes some with small lids that are fitted with a little brass knob so that they lift of to gain access to the needlework notions that are stored in the compartment. The lid of the box has been decorated with beautiful hand painted chinoiserie designs mostly they are in rounded sarcophagus shapes with very fine gold decoration depicting oriental scenes. The Sewing Box measures 8 inches high x 5 inches wide x 31/4 inches deep.

The Serpentine arched top rail surmounts both medallion and rounded ends curving downwards in an unbroken line to the enclosed arms. It also forms the frame of the medallion. The finger moulded top rail is surmounted by a simple pierced cresting of foliated flowers. The front rail of the seat is also finger moulded. The small cabriole legs have pad feet. This design is sometimes referred to as mirror back liking the oval medallion to a mirror.

Empire/Victorian transitional, scroll arm Settee, circa 1840-1855, The serpentine-arched top rail, the seat rail and arm facings rail are heavily carved with a reticulated leaf scroll. The top rail is flanked by further scroll shaped carvings at each end of the settee. Further carved decoration can be found on the deep shaped skirt carved with a repeat of the foliated scrollwork. The frame boasts attractive up-swept scroll end arms decorated with foliated carvings that continue through to decorate the curved splay sofa legs. The end of the settee legs is a carved scroll that serves as the foot for the settee.
