French Rocco Style Couch Louis XV-walnut
French Rocco Style Couch Louis XV. has a high armchair back with a rounded end. The arm chair back of the chaise extends through to the front of the chaise and is infilled with cane mesh. The finger-moulded walnut frame incorporates the long sweeping cures of the Rocco style. The top rail of the frame is surmounted by elaborate pieced and carved design. At the high end of the chaise the rail extends with a cyma curve down to the front and back cabriole legs. The front seat rail and the side rails have a central carved cartouche flanked by conventional leafage sculls. The back of the chaise measures 5 inches high at the front and the back is 6inches high from the floor. The chaise measures 8 inches wide and 3 inches deep. The continuous top rail curves in an unbroken line to enclose the arms and then continues to curve downward to the seat providing rear support for the open arms. The back rail has a cresting of foliated flowers carved in silhouette. The open arms are supported at the front by a bold cyma- curved extensions of the font legs. The front seat rail is decorated with a finger moulding. Mid century regency Ottoman
A popular piece of furniture in the Mid-century 50s. The ottoman was originally a padded, low-lying, chair. Gradually, by removing the back and the arms the design was adapted so that the ottoman could serve not only as a footstool and as a seat, but also as a makeshift coffee table. Ming Dynasty Writing Table Chair-Black
Yoke back arm chair Ming dynasty,( the original can be seen in the Metropolitan Museum of Art) it was originally used as the chair for a Chinese painting desk. The design of this chair is simple. The top of the chair fame is Cyma shaped, The back is a flat splat with moulded edges and a very small cut out were the splat fits on to the chair seat. (Hence the name yoke back)The top of the back frame and splat are curved back slightly. The chair has open arms curved outwards with straight supports. The seat frame is moulded with a curved valance that forms part of the front framework. Shaped brace blocks have been incorporated on the front legs, under the seat at the sides and at the front of the chair under the arm rests. The chair measures 6 1/4 inches high x 2 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches deep and is available in black.
