VICTORIAN SETTEE- American, circa 1840
Empire/Victorian transitional, scroll arm Settee, circa 1840-1855, The serpentine-arched top rail, the seat rail and arm facings rail are heavily carved with a reticulated leaf scroll. The top rail is flanked by further scroll shaped carvings at each end of the settee. Further carved decoration can be found on the deep shaped skirt carved with a repeat of the foliated scrollwork. The frame boasts attractive up-swept scroll end arms decorated with foliated carvings that continue through to decorate the curved splay sofa legs. The end of the settee legs is a carved scroll that serves as the foot for the settee. The settee has been upholstered in an brown and Green striped velour Fabric The settee measures 7 1/4 inches high x 13 3/4 inches wide x 4 1/2 inches deep and is available in a walnut finish.
